Name
Darren James PositionDesign Director / Managing Director ProfileWith a passion for creating functional yet beautiful things from a young age, and following in the tradition of his Grandfather, James pursued a trade in cabinetmaking – manufacturing and installing timber joinery on luxury boats. Trained in the craft by Danish artesian, James developed a vivid eye for detail and vocation for quality. His skills were highly recognized and soon the clients of the boats he was fitting out were asking him to complete work in their homes. The demand not only for his skills, but his planning, style, designs and aesthetic concepts grew and in 2000 James established his own business servicing the medium-high residential market. All of his business generated solely through word of mouth. “...a quality finish that incorporates his clients personality and style...†James established ‘Interiors By Darren James’ in 2004 and since then he has been pioneering the integration of design and individually created handmade kitchens and joinery. His ability to combine the latest technology and innovative design solutions with Australian functionality has seen James achieve recognition for producing the highest quality and personalised kitchens, bathrooms and interior spaces. With a unique signature style James has an impressive and well deserved reputation for delivering a quality finish that incorporates his client's personality and style. His commitment to providing the finest workmanship and professionalism has quickly become recognizable and a trademark for the business. In 2010 James gained his accreditation for Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) and in the same year was awarded the Kitchen and Bathroom Design Institute’s prestigious title of ‘Certified Designer of the Year’. As the principle designer and Managing Director at Interiors By Darren James, he oversees all aspects of the project. |

Yes. We can assist you with design and renovation of these rooms too. We specialize in residential interiors, additions and renovations and Interiors By Darren James have the license to undertake all these types of renovations. Carpentry and building services like changing or adding windows and doors or removing and installing walls and adding internal rooms are well within our capabilities.
If it's a typical renovation you will generally be without your kitchen for approx. 2-3 weeks and bathroom approx. 3-4weeks. However it really depends on the extent and type of renovation work to be done. If you are relocating walls / services or combining rooms it can take a little longer. You'll find Interiors By Darren James run a very efficient manufacturing, construction and project management schedule and guarantees start and finish dates.
What is the time line for design? The design process commences only once the design agreement has been signed and the deposit for the initial estimate has been received. The design process takes approximately 3 weeks depending on the size and complexity of the project. A design presentation is then held in our studio to finalise the finishes and specifications and make any necessary changes. For larger projects often the design process is divided up into stages and several meeting may be required. Regardless of the size we will meet with you as many times as required to finalise the plans and specifications.
Is the construction and manufacturing quote completed in the design stage? And how do we ensure everything remains within our budget? It's important that the designer ascertain the project budget in the initial client brief - otherwise they are flying blind. Once the budget has been established it's the responsibility of the designer to work to that budget and maximize it. All necessary quotes including the construction quotes are completed at the completion of the design phase to ensure you have a clear picture of costs before proceeding. A BSA approved contract is signed based on these costs.
Do I own or will I be given a copy of the plans at the completion of the design phase? Our initial design fee does not reflect or include ownership. In an effort to protect our brand and the quality of workmanship we retain copyright of the design and for this reason working drawings / plans are only handed out once an approved BSA contract has been signed for the works. At that stage you will receive a full presentation folder with all the details of the project including plans. Whilst we do not hand out physical copies of the plans we do spend as much time as necessary going through the designs to ensure you understand each and every element.
Can you supply my appliances?Yes, we are aligned with several appliance companies and receive very competitive prices. An important part of the design process is understanding your cooking requirements and our designers and appliance partners can assist you in the selection process. You may choose to organize your own appliances, however we do require them to be fully specified to finalise the design process as well as delivered to our factory before manufacturing commences to ensure the project remains on schedule.
How long will I be without my kitchen / bathroom?
If it's a typical renovation you will generally be without your kitchen for approx. 2-3 weeks and bathroom approx. 3-4weeks. However it really depends on the extent and type of renovation work to be done. If you are relocating walls / services or combining rooms it can take a little longer.
